Its very simple. So were saying that y is 8. 2x+24=12. Which is 2x=12-24. Which is 2x=-12. Which is x=-6. So if x is -6 when y is 8, then the value must be equal to -6. You just have to find a way to put it into the ordered pair (4_,8)...
