-q-7q=8
First you need to know that there is an invisible 1 in front of -q. Change it to -q if you need to. You get:
-1q-7q=8
add like terms: -1-7 gives you -8.
-8q=8. Divide by -8 on both sides to find q.
-8/8=-1
8/8=1
Therefore, q=1.
