How did individuals in power tend to view the working class during Marx’s time?

Karl Marx and individuals in power saw the working class like the means to obtain its own political interests selling the idea that the working class or proletariat will have to become equal in wealth and promoting a revolution against the bourgeoisie  who owned the working sources.
